Alteril: The Truth is Here

by Denise Wagner on December 12, 2012

Hi there! If you’re looking for Alteril reviews, you’ve come to the right place. While there are tons of sleeping pills, over-the-counter sleep aids, and medications, it’s not easy to pick one that will help you get that good night’s sleep. Some are even detrimental to your health.

Getting reliable information isn’t easy but here I will share all the information you need to know, including real customer reviews and any shortcomings the product may have so you can make an informed decision.

(Updated for 2013).

What is Alteril?

Alteril sleeping aid is an all-natural solution for sporadic sleeplessness and mild insomnia. Produced and marketed by Biotab Nutraceuticals, this over-the-counter sleep aid is formulated to help you obtain and improve the sleep you need to function well every day. The makers claim that it does not only help you get restful sleep but also facilitate substantial health improvement.

How Does It Work?

The recommended dosage is two tablets about an hour before bedtime although just a single tablet could be sufficient for other users. To help you determine the effectiveness of this product, I also looked into each of its contents. Based on their website, Alteril’s formula is a combination of medically proven natural sleep inducers and regulators.

  • L-Tryptophan – Essential for regulating sleep and wake cycles. L Tryptophan is an amino acid, a protein that is responsible for natural production of essential neurotransmitters in your body that regulates your sleep and wake cycles. It is naturally found in many plant and animal proteins which are considered essential amino acids because the body can’t produce it.
  • Melatonin – This is responsible for regulating your circadian rhythm which prompts your body when it’s time to sleep or to wake up. Melatonin is a natural hormone produced by the body’s pineal gland. It is a pea-sized, light-sensitive organ located just above the middle of the brain. This hormone doesn’t only initiate sleep cycle but also enhances the healing and regenerative processes within the body.
  • Valerian – Helps you relax without feeling tired or woozy the following day. Known for its sedating properties, this sweet smelling plant has actually been used for medicinal purposes from the ancient time of Greece and Rome. While it is widely used for treatment of insomnia, depression, and anxiety, Valerian does not leave you feeling groggy or dazed the next morning.
  • L-Theanine – Hugely responsible for increasing your ‘Alpha’ relaxation brain waves and reduction of stress and anxiety to help you doze off. This amino acid which is usually found in teas has been studied for its many potential abilities including reduction of physical and mental stress.

Alteril also has a special mixture of all-natural herbs that are known to promote sleep, enhance relaxation, reduce nervous tension, and alleviate restlessness among others. The special herbs are chamomile, hops, lemon balm, and passion flower.

What Makes It Different?

Because it’s made of all-natural ingredients, it’s not supposed to have adverse effects that other types of sleep aids cause such as difficulty in waking up from sleep, grogginess the morning after, impaired vision, weakened cognitive, motor skills, and memory performance, and withdrawal symptoms among others.

This helped me get decent sleep since I started taking it several months ago. I never noticed any side effect either.

I wanted to try sleeping pills but have been too afraid of all sorts of effects i hear from people who were taking them. A friend recommended this and said it’s made of all natural ingredients so I think I’d give it a try.

I have tried a couple of sleep aids and they worked but I always felt tired the following day like I didn’t sleep enough. Can anyone tell me what it’s like the morning after?

Hi Gene! Based on reviews I’ve gathered and what I’ve already mentioned in this post, it’s not supposed to cause any difficulty waking up in the morning, no grogginess, or tiredness like you mentioned. Effects may still vary from person to person but most users did not complain about those side effects

It did make me feel tired but not in the mornings. After taking it, I get relaxed and tired that it makes me head off to bed. Mornings are okay, no side effects. But then I don’t take this every night, I just don’t want to be totally dependent on sleep aids.

Usually works in an hour or less then I go to bed. No side effects for me. Would recommend!
